Nissan has just unveiled its new 2021 X-Terra SUV for the Middle East, also known as the Terra in other markets. Previously based on the F-Alpha platform that was discontinued after the 2015MY the Nissan X-Terra returns following a five-year hiatus and is built around the latest 2021 Navara.
For 2021, the X-Terra wears a new front fascia with a fresh grille and headlights, which deviates even from the 2021 Navara it is based on. A horizontal-slat design flanked by thick chrome accents informs the face, while a prominent contrasting bash plate and molded bumper also contribute to making the X-Terra look much more like a standalone model. The rear of the X-Terra is also updated with fresh tail-lights and a new chrome strip that is positioned above the Nissan badge.
Inside, the cabin also moves away from its LCV underpinnings with new equipment including an Android Auto/Apple CarPlay-compatible 9.0-inch multimedia touchscreen, revised climate controls, and passenger car-like steering wheel. Second- and third-row passengers are also catered for with air vents, armrests, a roof-mounted fold-out 11.0-inch media screen with HDMI input, and cupholders galore.
Also new are some of the SUV’s active safety capabilities, where flagship Platinum grade variants get Lane Departure Warning, Blind Spot Warning, Intelligent Forward Collision Warning, Rear Cross-Traffic Alert, Intelligent Driver Alertness, and Intelligent Emergency Braking.
Powering the X-Terra is a 2.5-liter four-cylinder petrol engine making 168 hp/241 Nm, paired with a seven-speed automatic transmission, it can also be had with a 190 hp/450 Nm 2.3-litre twin-turbo diesel engine that also powers the Navara. The 2021 Nissan X-Terra will go head to head with the likes of the Toyota Fortuner, the Ford Endeavour, and the Isuzu MU-X.
